65 and Still Crawling? Nigeria’s Unending Struggle!

As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, a pertinent question lingers: are we truly free? The answer is a resounding no. Despite decades of self-governance, our nation remains entangled in a web of challenges that threaten our very existence.

The harsh realities of poverty, hunger, and insecurity stare us in the face. Our leaders prioritize campaigns over governance, leaving citizens to fend for themselves amidst rising poverty and hunger. Modern-day slavery, epitomized by exploitation and abuse, persists with impunity.

We are reminded that “like butterflies to wanton boys, so are we to the gods” – fragile and vulnerable to the whims of fate. Our society is plagued by greed, insensitivity, and ignorance. It’s time for introspection and a re-evaluation of our priorities and values.

As we celebrate this milestone, we must confront the elephant in the room: Nigeria’s journey towards true independence remains a work in progress. We need leaders chosen on merit, not manipulated by the whims of the powerful. We need development that is equitable and sustainable, not skewed towards the interests of the few.

The question remains: are we ready to come out of the woods? The answer lies in our collective resolve to overcome the challenges that have held us back for far too long. It’s time for Nigerians to demand better, to hold our leaders accountable, and to build a brighter future for all.

It is well. But will we continue to wobble, or will we find our footing and forge a new path? Only time will tell.
