By Ahabamnews

A human rights activists and National Coordinator, Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (ISRCA) Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen has called on Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwore to ensure that Fejiro Oliver, a journalist with Secret Reporters is released and reunited with his family. That his freedom must not be unduly restricted without sufficient legal justification, particularly when it contravenes due process or constitute an abuse of power by an individual or authority.

According to him Fejiro Oliver, is not a criminal, he is a Nigeria Citizen known to the relevant authorities and others, both within and outside Delta State. To the best of my knowledge, he is a publisher, a journalist and also a critic, who has advocated good governance in his own way, exposing corruption in and outside the Delta State Government, despite his polical affiliation .

He said that his arrest may have been prompted by allegations of cyberbullying, blackmail, and character assassination. A fundamental mental aspect of Democracy is the freedom of speech.

ISRCA Chief stated that, if Fejiro is not under investigation for criminal activities but civil matters, if anyone believes he has violated their fundamental rights, they should pursue legal action rather than utilizing the Nigeria Police Force as a means of detaining him unlawfully

Comrade Agberen, a human rights activists stated that, we pretend to be a democratic nation, albeit with reservations, that he has observed instances where individuals suspected of civil wrongdoing are denied information, regarding the reasons for their arrest, access to family and friends, and subjected to secret torture and unlawful treatment, including incommunicado detention.

He lamented that the Nigerian Police Force should refrain from reverting to a military regime mindset, wherein criticising the government or specific officials precipitated facilitated arrest. He added, the Nigerian Police Force must distinguish between criminal and civil cases, and provide petitioners with guidance on navigating situations, instead of colluding with oppressors to violate universally recognized fundamental human rights.

ISRCA Boss stated that, up until date families, friends, concerned citizens, and residents in Delta State have yet to receive meaningful information regarding Fejiro Oliver’s arrest while allegations suggest Fejiro Oliver is currently being detained at the Delta State Command in Asaba, with the Delta State Governor alleged to have orchestrated his arrest.

“It was reported that Fejiro Oliver was arrested and taken away in a manner befitting a common criminal, purported by the Delta State Command, who coordinated the arrest from Abuja to Asaba”, Activists stated.
