The Young Nigerian Rights Organization (๐˜๐๐‘๐Ž), led by frontline Activist ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ซ๐š๐๐ž ๐•๐ข๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐Ž๐ฃ๐ž๐ข, popularly known as ๐–๐จ๐ง๐  ๐๐จ๐ฑ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐š, is drawing the attention of all Deltans to a significant legal development that directly affects motorists, transport workers, and the general public across Delta State.

Public Watch Media and the Unity Transport Association have officially dragged the Directorate of Transport and its agent ๐Ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐š ๐†๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐•๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ before the High Court in Asaba over widespread allegations of illegal revenue collection on state and federal highways.

The suit, filed by ๐๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐˜.๐†๐›๐จ๐ ๐ฎ, challenges the controversial operations of ๐Ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐š ๐†๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐•๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ, owned by ๐Ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐ข ๐ˆ๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐š๐๐ž ๐•๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ (๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐ฌ ๐€๐๐€๐ƒ๐€) which has allegedly been enforcing the compulsory purchase of multiple โ€œ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ฅ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฌ,โ€ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ค๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ, and ๐ซ๐จ๐š๐ ๐ญ๐š๐ ๐ฌ using a questionable authorization letter. Motorists report being harassed, intimidated, and extorted daily by groups known as โ€œ๐Ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐šโ€™๐ฌ ๐›๐จ๐ฒ๐ฌ,โ€ many of whom are not even from Delta State.

Drivers have repeatedly complained of their batteries, tools, and even entire vehicles being seized until cash payments are made, often without receipts or any form of official documentation.

According to the applicants, the Nigerian Constitution clearly places road permit powers under local governments, not ministries or private agents. They are therefore asking the court to declare the actions of ๐Ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐š ๐†๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐•๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ illegal and to restrain all forms of such harassment immediately.

๐˜๐๐‘๐Ž also noted the disturbing fact that these activities contradict Governor Sheriff Oborevworiโ€™s consistent warnings against illegal revenue collection. Instead of supporting the Governorโ€™s people-oriented agenda, the Directorate of Transport appears to have strayed into actions that embarrass the state and violate citizensโ€™ rights.

๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ซ๐š๐๐ž ๐•๐ข๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐Ž๐ฃ๐ž๐ข (๐–๐จ๐ง๐  ๐๐จ๐ฑ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐š) emphasized that these illegal checkpoints make Delta State appear unsafe and lawless, discouraging free movement and hurting hardworking motorists.

๐˜๐๐‘๐Ž calls on the Governor and relevant authorities to take decisive action now.
The frustration, fear, and financial losses experienced by motorists must end. Delta State cannot continue to tolerate activities that threaten public order, economic stability, and the Governorโ€™s own policy direction.
