Open Letter to Governor Oborevwori: A Call for Fairness and Excellence in Delta State’s Education Sector
October 26, 2024
Your Excellency, Governor Oborevwori,
We, the concerned citizens and stakeholders in the education sector, humbly bring to your attention the pressing issue of stagnation and discrimination faced by university graduate teachers in Delta State primary schools.
These dedicated teachers have invested time, energy, and resources to upgrade their qualifications, yet they remain stuck in limbo, without the career progression opportunities available to their counterparts in other areas. This disparity is not only unjust but also demotivating, and it undermines the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education in Delta State.
We acknowledge and appreciate your government’s recognition of teachers as valuable partners in education. However, we urge you to consider the specific needs of university graduate teachers in primary schools and extend the positive governance initiatives across Delta State to address their concerns.
The Commissioner for Primary Education can play a key role in resolving this issue by providing you with accurate information on the situation and highlighting the benefits of supporting these teachers. Other states have found solutions to similar challenges, and Delta State can explore these examples.
We propose two potential options for consideration:
- Career Progression: Implementing policies to recognize and reward university graduate teachers in primary schools, aligning with their qualifications and contributions.
- Teacher Deployment: Exploring opportunities to deploy university graduate teachers to secondary schools, promoting educational continuity and utilizing qualified teachers effectively.
A committee could be established to explore these options and develop a fair solution for university graduate teachers in Delta State primary schools. Addressing this issue would not only support the teachers but also contribute to the overall quality of education in Delta State.
We believe that your leadership and commitment to education can bring about the necessary Renewed Hope of the M-O-R-E Agenda of the government.. We urge you to take immediate action to address the concerns of university graduate teachers in primary schools and ensure fairness and excellence in Delta State’s education sector.
Thank you for your attention to this pressing matter.
Sincerely,
